Kaslo, British Columbia, Canada is a village on the west side of Kootenay Lake, about an hour's drive north of Nelson in southeast BC. Sometimes billed as the "little Switzerland of Canada", the north Kootenay Lake area has a reputation for its stunning natural beauty.

The village enjoys an idyllic climate with warm summers, mild coastal winters and little snow due to the warming effect of the lake.

We have a traditional spring celebration called May Days that draws visitors from all over the West Kootenay region. This is also the home of a popular annual summer music festival on the lake called Kaslo Jazz Etc.

The village began as a sawmill site in 1889 and soon became a thriving shipping center in silver mining days. It was incorporated in 1893 and at one time had a population of around 3000. Today Kaslo is a multifaceted community of around 1000 people with it's main economic reliance on tourism and forestry.

We live on “Kootenay time” -- which basically means laid-back and slow-paced – one of the many reasons why we like it here, and you will too.
